The Anxiety Every Mother Shares:

A Baby’s First Solid Food

In Nepal, when a baby reaches 5 to 6 months old, they celebrate the ‘Rice Feeding Ceremony.’ This transition from breast milk to solid food is a critical turning point for a child’s health and growth. Phul Maya Tamang, the founder of Aama Foods Industries, experienced this milestone firsthand as a mother.

“When my son turned 6 months old, I tried several commercial baby food brands. However, he couldn't digest them properly, and eventually, his health began to suffer.”

Feeling anxious, she turned to friends and neighbors for advice, only to hear similar stories. Many other children were experiencing the same issues with store-bought baby foods. While the Nepalese market was flooded with snacks and crackers that children enjoy, it was difficult to find safe, highly nutritious baby food that actually supported healthy growth.

The Answer Found in a Mother’s Recipe

Phul Maya remembered her own childhood and the nutritious meals her mother used to carefully prepare using grains grown in their village. Drawing from those warm memories and adding professional nutritional advice, she decided to create healthy food for children herself.

That was the beginning of Aama Foods Industries. ‘Aama’ means ‘Mother’ in Nepali, symbolizing food made with a mother’s heart. Aama Foods produces the nutritious cereal ‘LITO,’ protein powder for children and pregnant women, fish powder for babies, and ‘Sarbottam Pitho,’ a nutritious blend for the elderly, all using various locally grown grains as raw materials.

“Whenever I hear from parents that their child is eating well without any digestive issues, I feel a deep sense of reward and gratitude.” — Phul Maya Tamang

From Village Grains to Child Health

Aama Foods products are made with 100% natural ingredients, so children can eat them safely. Because they are easy to prepare, they relieve the worry and burden for parents who are starting solid foods for the first time. The products are suitable for all ages—from children and pregnant women to the elderly—and are offered at affordable prices so anyone can purchase them without hesitation.

The change created by Aama Foods doesn't stop with the consumer. By purchasing grains directly from village farmers, the company provides stable income opportunities and boosts the motivation for local agricultural investment. A small start for one company has grown into a virtuous cycle connecting children’s health, parents' peace of mind, and farmers' livelihoods.

A Healthy First Bite for Children Across Nepal

Aama Foods aims to introduce appropriate technology to increase production efficiency and maintain quality while supplying more products at reasonable prices. They are also working to expand their distribution network so that the same high-quality products can be found anywhere in Nepal.

Additionally, they distribute products for free through child health check-up camps, where they listen to honest feedback from parents and health workers to improve quality. The ultimate value pursued by Aama Foods is ensuring that everyone can use their products safely, comfortably, and happily.
